Alien Encounters and Christian Perspectives
With discussions around UFOs and aliens gaining traction, some Christian groups are putting forth a theory: perhaps aliens don’t exist at all; instead, encounters with these beings might be the devil masquerading as extraterrestrial entities.
Glenn Beck has a somewhat conflicted stance on this matter. Although he dismisses the notion that any alien life forms are inherently evil or outside God’s intentions, he maintains that many reported encounters with UFOs may have demonic connections.
To delve deeper into this intriguing perspective, Glenn invited journalist and host of a supernatural podcast, Billy Hallowell, onto his show for a thought-provoking discussion.
Hallowell conveys that, broadly speaking, many scientists agree that “people are seeing things that are very real.” The current debate surrounding aliens appears to touch on something much grander: the idea that individuals might be witnessing entities either from our universe or from another spiritual plane.
This theory that these sightings could involve spiritual beings is not without basis. According to Hallowell, the Bible doesn’t just mention Satan and demons; it also speaks of “principalities and powers,” indicating that there’s a degree of mystery at play.
Moreover, since angels in the Bible appear in various forms, it isn’t farfetched to consider that the devil might also adopt different appearances.
Yet, the debate thickens because views on what constitutes the devil vary greatly. Hallowell points out that while the predominant belief is that the devil is a fallen angel, another perspective suggests that he might be a spirit of the Nephilim—entities described in both biblical texts and the Book of Enoch. According to this alternative view, the Nephilim, monstrous offspring of human women and fallen angels, are thought to have sought bodies after their own were lost in the Flood, which could potentially explain some of the encounters being reported.
Glenn found this idea intriguing, asking, “Are you suggesting they aren’t gone and this could shed light on what we’re experiencing?”
Hallowell explains that the theories suggest these beings, whether they are fallen angels or Nephilim spirits, might have the ability to physically manifest, which some argue could clarify why people often describe encounters with alien-like figures.
This concept naturally leads to further questions: “What would their intention be? Is there an element of deception involved?”
Glenn admits he’s unsure what to make of alien existence, though he’s certain that where the devil is involved, deception is typically at play. “The essence of the dark side is deception,” he remarks.
