An Air Force veteran, who was set to testify before Congress regarding the government’s UFO program, has died unexpectedly just months ahead of a hearing concerning a drug overdose incident, according to information obtained by The Post.
Matthew James Sullivan, aged 39, passed away at his home in Falls Church, Virginia, on May 12, 2024. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner reported that he died from a toxic combination of alcohol, alprazolam, cyclobenzaprine, and imipramine.
Alprazolam is widely known as Xanax, used for anxiety relief. Cyclobenzaprine is a potent muscle relaxant that impacts the central nervous system, while imipramine is usually prescribed for anxiety and issues like bedwetting in children.
His untimely death has raised “grave concerns” for Rep. Eric Burleson (R-Missouri), who has asked the FBI to investigate, citing its potential implications for national security as detailed in a letter obtained by the newspaper.
Burleson’s communication to FBI Director Kash Patel highlighted that Sullivan’s death should be treated as more than just a local coroner’s issue and noted the troubling timing as he was preparing to testify. “The sudden and suspicious circumstances surrounding his death,” it read, “raise serious concerns about potential criminal activity and the safety of others involved in this matter.”
The FBI has mentioned that they may look into Sullivan’s case alongside 12 other missing or deceased U.S. scientists.
While not confirming specific cases, the FBI stated they are collaborating with multiple agencies, including the Department of Energy and local law enforcement, to investigate connections among these cases.
Sullivan was a commendable figure, having received the Bronze Star Award for bravery during Operation Enduring Freedom and later working with notable organizations such as the Air Force Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency, as highlighted in his obituary.
At his funeral, Retired Maj. Gen. David Aba spoke of Sullivan’s profound awareness of national issues, saying he “bears the burden of truly understanding what’s going on in this country.”
Notably, Sullivan was involved in the Legacy UFO Program, a secretive initiative aimed at crash recovery that has been conducted under various executive branches for decades. He had firsthand experience with federally owned UFOs and was set to reveal information about the program at a Congressional hearing scheduled for November 2024.
Threats to UFO whistleblowers are not unusual; others have experienced similar risks to their safety after coming forward with sensitive information.
David Grusch, another veteran with a background in the intelligence community, previously testified to Congress about the U.S. possessing UFOs and alleged biological materials. He claimed to have faced retaliation and credible death threats following his disclosures, which contributed to overall safety concerns within the community.
Sources have indicated that part of Grusch’s communications to the Intelligence Community Inspector General (IC OIG) included details regarding Sullivan’s death. However, the IC OIG has maintained a position of confidentiality, stating that they cannot confirm the status of any investigation.
