State Visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla to the U.S.
President Trump is preparing to “roll out the red carpet” next week for King Charles III and Queen Camilla during their state visit, which the White House describes as an extension of the longstanding relationship between the two nations.
The king faces the delicate task of addressing tensions between Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, particularly following their disagreements over Iran.
Spanning four days, the visit is packed with events designed to introduce the royal family and foster goodwill among Americans. A key moment will be the state dinner on Tuesday evening, where many of Trump’s children, business figures, and other guests will join in the White House festivities.
“It’s the first state visit, and naturally, the White House is eager to make it special,” a senior official stated, highlighting Trump’s historically positive relationship with the royal family.
This visit is also tied to the 250th anniversary of America’s independence from Britain, signifying an important historical connection.
U.S. Chief of Protocol Ambassador Monica Crowley emphasized the detail-oriented preparations being made for the visit, noting that everything from the ceremonial aspects to meal choices is being considered with great care.
The royal couple will stay at Blair House, the official guest residence across from the White House, with flags already lining the streets in anticipation of their arrival.
In preparation for the visit, various government agencies have meticulously planned each aspect, turning Blair House into a welcoming “second home” for the royals.
Notably, tensions persist between Trump and Starmer, with some voices in the UK suggesting that the king should have canceled the visit due to Trump’s critical remarks about Starmer. Nevertheless, this visit is an opportunity for King Charles to leverage his diplomatic skills to possibly help smooth over relations.
Trump has a longstanding admiration for the royal family, which might play to Charles’s advantage. The president has previously referred to the king as “amazing,” suggesting that U.S.-UK ties could benefit from this engagement.
On Monday, the royal couple will arrive in Washington and partake in a private tea with the Trumps, followed by a tour of the new White House Beehive.
King Charles will then host a garden party at the British ambassador’s residence, where the Trumps will also join in a gesture of hospitality.
Tuesday features important ceremonial events, with national anthems played by the U.S. Marine Corps band and a 21-gun salute. The president will meet with the king in the Oval Office, while the first lady and queen engage with students at an event focused on AI technology.
Excitement surrounds the evening’s state dinner, with guests including members of Trump’s family. Melania Trump is overseeing every detail, from the menu to the decorations, ensuring the event reflects her taste and elegance.
President Trump expressed regrets that the grand banquet hall, currently under construction, won’t be ready for the royal family. He mentioned, “If we had that, it would be full,” indicating the high interest in the event.
Following their time in Washington, King Charles and Queen Camilla will take a trip to New York, where they will honor the 9/11 memorial and engage in various public appearances, including visits to a children’s center and a reading event at the New York Public Library.
As the visit progresses, the couple plans to acknowledge their connection to communities across Virginia, including environmental initiatives and local cultural celebrations.
Interestingly, there are two figures unlikely to be mentioned during the visit: Jeffrey Epstein and Prince Harry. Buckingham Palace recently confirmed that King Charles would not meet with Epstein’s survivors given the ongoing investigations tied to his brother, Prince Andrew. Additionally, Trump remarked on Prince Harry’s absence from royal events, stating, “He does not speak for Britain, that’s for sure.”
