Controversy Surrounds PGA Tour’s Cadillac Championship at Trump Doral
This week, the PGA Tour is holding its fifth signature event, the Cadillac Championship, at Trump National Doral in Miami, Florida. Scheduled about a year ago, this tournament is stirring up quite a bit of controversy, particularly among those who aren’t fans of golf—specifically, those on the left.
This will be the first PGA event at Doral since 2016. The site previously hosted the WGC-Cadillac Championship from 2007 to 2016 but shifted to Mexico City in 2017, coincidentally, the same year Donald Trump took office. The Trump Organization acquired the property in 2012 for $150 million.
As the event draws closer, the PGA Tour Communications Twitter account revealed the participating players, including a mention of Trump, which ignited backlash from liberal commentators. It’s worth noting, though, that while I generally enjoy watching golf, I’ve become increasingly aware of the intense reactions surrounding Trump. It’s almost as if there’s a condition—what some call “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
The backlash isn’t solely aimed at Trump himself; it’s more about a golfer participating at a course he owns. Honestly, that seems like a pretty tenuous connection to be getting so upset over. Yet, reactions have been strong and a bit over the top.
- One Twitter user vented, “Damn, damn, Trump, damn Doral. It would be unconscionable to hold a tournament on a course of traitors and corrupt fraudsters.”
- An other commented, “You should be ashamed. His poor guy will be rotting in a federal prison soon, I guess.”
- Another tweet read, “I won’t watch this. He is a pathetic, disgusting, embarrassing figure.”
- And someone else simply said to skip the event altogether.
As for me? I’m set to keep my focus on my golf betting strategy and aim for a third straight win. It’s interesting how some folks get so worked up about things. I suppose we all react differently to such situations.
