Communists encourage comrade Mamdani to leave the Democratic Party and help them form a new 'Workers' party.

Come on, Comey, why not join us?

The election of Mayor Zoran Mamdani has inspired members of the new Communist Party faction in New York City. They are encouraging Mr. Hizner to break from the Democratic Party to push for a bold alternative.

Party leaders mentioned that the new mayor should channel his efforts into establishing a workers’ party aimed at dismantling capitalism.

A representative for the group stated, “Creating a mass workers’ party is a crucial step towards establishing a government for the working class,” while their manifesto invites young individuals to “come forward and fight to abolish capitalism.”

“A Labor government will provide free universal healthcare, free public transportation, affordable housing with a 10% income rent cap, and free education,” they asserted. “This would result in no wage losses, full employment, and shorter working weeks.”

“Let’s unite all communists and aware workers into the party for the American socialist revolution and end capitalism for good.”

The New York City Communists, local affiliates of the RCA, recently urged for more members through a passionate post on Instagram.

“If you’re fed up with the wealthy elite and their constant conflicts, exhausted from juggling multiple jobs just to make ends meet, or pondering why it feels like the world is crumbling, RCA is for you,” the post expressed.

At the Emblem Bar in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, patrons were surprised to see group members rallying with signs. This poses a challenge to Mamdani’s Democratic Socialists of America in his own territory.

“How can the democratic socialists I care about stay silent while communists are mobilizing in my neighborhood?” a source within the Democratic Party remarked. “This isn’t representation; it’s complicity.”

Conferences were also conducted in areas like Bedford-Stuyvesant, Bushwick, Astoria, and Park Slope.

The Post reached out to the group to discuss Mamdani, a notable figure among democratic socialists alongside Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

“Zoran Mamdani’s election demonstrated that many in New York City are receptive to socialist ideas. We view this shift as a promising sign,” RCA mentioned.

While the group supports Mamdani’s initiatives—like raising taxes on the wealthy and providing free childcare—they believe he needs to lead a movement that truly encompasses the working class for significant reforms.

“He should advocate for universal healthcare and reforms not just for New York City workers, but for the working class nationwide,” the spokesperson suggested. “This challenge will test both political parties; a strong movement could win substantial reforms and propel the fight for a socialist society.”

However, the group criticized Mamdani for not being radical enough due to his affiliation with the Democratic Party and the existing capitalist frameworks, arguing these should be replaced with a Communist and Socialist Workers’ Party.

“We feel the working class deserves its own political entity, distinct from both the Democratic and Republican Parties,” they asserted. “We do not endorse capitalist parties but urge the labor movement to separate from them and support genuinely independent working-class candidates as a precursor to building a workers’ party.”

“Had Mr. Mamdani campaigned independently, we might have supported him, as his volunteer base could have initiated a Workers’ Party.” They did not endorse voting for him solely as a Democrat.

The RCA claims its membership has surged by 83% since late July, reflecting a growing interest in socialist and communist ideals among disillusioned younger voters.

“The downturn of American capitalism and the mounting struggles faced by everyday workers have driven many towards socialism and communism,” the group stated. “We believe the public’s aversion to the elite class will further fuel this movement.”

They referenced a Cato Institute/YouGov poll from March 2025, which indicated that 34% of young Americans hold favorable views of communism, compared to just 14% across the general population.

In response to queries from The Post, the RCA refrained from revealing who leads its New York City chapter.

The RCA claims to have 43 branches throughout the U.S., governed by an elected central committee.

Although they share similar principles, some members of the Democratic Socialists of America feel uneasy about the communist group’s rise, fearing it could instigate tension among liberal factions.

A DSA activist remarked that the DSA does not have any ties with communist organizations. “I don’t even think about them,” the activist noted.

Mamdani’s team has not responded yet to requests for comments.
