Trump Calls for Kimmel’s Firing Over Comments
On Monday, President Donald Trump urged Disney and ABC to dismiss late-night host Jimmy Kimmel. This followed Kimmel’s comments about First Lady Melania Trump during a monologue before the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where he remarked that she had a “glow like a pregnant widow.”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed his outrage, stating, “Wow, Jimmy Kimmel, never funny, as evidenced by his terrible television ratings, made some truly shocking statements on his show. He showed a fake video of First Lady Melania and our son Barron as if they were actually sitting in the studio listening to him, which never happened and never will. And he… He said, ‘Here’s Melania, our first lady. Look, Mrs. Trump, you look like a pregnant widow.’ The next day, a madman tried to walk into the White House Correspondents’ Dinner ballroom with a shotgun, a handgun, and a bunch of knives.”
He added, “I appreciate that so many people are outraged by Kimmel’s despicable call to violence. Normally, I would not have reacted in any way to Kimmel’s comments, but this is an outrageous situation. Jimmy Kimmel should be fired by Disney and ABC immediately. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Hours prior to Trump’s statement, First Lady Melania Trump had spoken out against Kimmel’s remarks, labeling them as divisive. She said, “Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is aimed at dividing our country. His monologue about my family is no comedy. His words are corrosive and deepen the political ills in America. Enough is enough. It’s time for ABC to take a stand. How many times will ABC’s leadership enable Kimmel’s atrocities at the expense of our community?”
The incident is linked to a mock dinner-style monologue by Kimmel on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” during which he humorously referred to Melania Trump, eliciting laughter from the audience.
Reports indicate that this segment aired just days before a shooting incident at the same dinner event in Washington, D.C. A man named Cole Thomas Allen, 31, allegedly forced his way through security, resulting in the death of a Secret Service agent. He is expected to face federal charges. Authorities noted that Allen had written a manifesto, participated in left-wing protests, and made a donation to Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign.
In December, ABC had announced a contract extension for Kimmel, keeping him on air through at least May 2027.
