Claims of a Staged Assassination Attempt on Trump
Anti-Trump commentator Ana Navarro suggested that the recent attempt on the president’s life might have been orchestrated as a distraction from pressing issues facing the nation.
Navarro, who co-hosts “The View,” remarked on her podcast that, despite having previously supported the late Sen. John McCain, she has since emerged as a vocal critic of President Donald Trump.
“People see this and think, ‘Oh my god, are you trying to distract us again?’” she said, implying that this is part of Trump’s pattern. “That’s what he’s doing, right?”
On her Sunday podcast, she elaborated on the idea that Saturday’s shooting during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner could have been staged. “It’s strange that something like this could happen in a highly secured area with so many Secret Service and law enforcement officers around,” she noted.
Navarro also pointed out that the suspicion around the incident stems from Trump’s history of dishonesty. “He lies constantly, day in and day out, pathologically. That’s why people don’t trust what he says. When his lips are moving, people might just assume he’s lying,” she added.
Furthermore, she described Trump as someone skilled in the art of distraction. “Whenever he faces a tough day—whether it’s dismal polling numbers, unpopularity over conflicts like Iran, or the rising gas prices—he tends to do or say something outrageous to divert attention away from those problems,” Navarro continued.
Following the incident, the Justice Department reported that they had gathered substantial evidence indicating that the suspected shooter, Cole Thomas Allen, was motivated by leftist sentiments in targeting the president.
“People look at this and say, ‘Oh my God, are you trying to distract us again?’” she reiterated. She accused Trump of making outrageous posts and statements to deflect from negative news, such as the Epstein files and other “horrific acts.” Navarro argued that these actions are all meant to overshadow the administration’s failures and incompetence.
On Monday, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche confirmed that Allen was facing charges ranging from attempted assassination of the president to illegal firearm transport and discharge during a violent crime. “Violence has no place in civil life,” Blanche emphasized. He reiterated that it would not be tolerated as a means to disrupt democratic institutions or intimidate public officials, especially the president.
