A recent confrontation erupted outside a Jewish restaurant in downtown Manhattan, with protesters using inflammatory language and directing insults at diners. The incident occurred on April 17 near Motek, a kosher eatery located in the Flatiron area, during a march organized by the pro-Palestinian group Within Our Lifetime.
Newly released footage shows protesters covering their faces with keffiyehs, aggressively shouting slogans as they crowded around the restaurant’s outdoor seating area. “Bomb Israel, bye-bye! Bomb Israel, bye-bye!” one group chanted at the patrons, including at least one individual wearing a yarmulke.
Some demonstrators went further, calling attendees “pedophiles” and referencing the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, yelling “Epstein level! Epstein level!” Meanwhile, another protester made personal jabs about one customer’s appearance, quipping that the individual had “more Botox than Kirstie Noem.” This comment was puzzling, considering the misspelling of the name.
Restaurant workers were seen coming out to observe the scene, hands on their hips, while customers appeared largely passive in the face of the angry crowd. Video footage depicted law enforcement officers maintaining a barrier around the patio, attempting to keep the two groups separate.
The motive behind this clash remains unclear. Within Our Lifetime has gained notoriety in New York City as a leading pro-Palestinian organization. Its mission advocates for the liberation of Palestine and expresses intent to eliminate Israel within a specific timeframe, entrenching itself in the narrative of resisting what it describes as a “Zionist occupation.”
The group’s strategies often provoke controversy, prominently displaying Hamas flags and related imagery during protests, including those linked to a memorial for victims of terrorist attacks in Israel. Its rhetoric has drawn criticism, even from some liberal figures, such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, underscoring the divisive nature of its messaging.
