An Arrest in Green Bay
A man referred to in the media as “the Green Bay guy” is facing serious allegations after a violent incident involving his ex-girlfriend and another individual in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
David Joel Herrera-Garcia, a Nicaraguan national living illegally in the U.S., was apprehended by local police and charged with multiple offenses, including attempted murder, aggravated assault, and armed robbery.
According to authorities, on April 20, Herrera-Garcia entered his ex-girlfriend’s residence and assaulted her with a machete. He also allegedly attacked another man who was at the home, inflicting similar wounds with the weapon.
The ex-girlfriend sustained injuries to her head, along with cuts on her neck and hands. The other victim suffered stab wounds in various areas, including his shoulder and forearm. She was able to identify Herrera-Garcia to the police, which led to his arrest.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has initiated a complaint against Herrera-Garcia, requesting that the Brown County Jail inform them if he is scheduled to be released.
Following the media’s labeling of Herrera-Garcia as “the Green Bay guy,” Lauren Biss from the Department of Homeland Security expressed concern. She emphasized that he is not just a harmless individual but a “criminal illegal alien” who severely attacked two people.
Biss criticized the current administration, stating that under President Biden, Herrera-Garcia has not been prioritized for enforcement, contrasting this with previous policies that aimed to prevent dangerous individuals from re-entering communities.
It’s noted that Herrera-Garcia failed to check in with immigration authorities in 2022, leading to a deportation order against him. Just recently, in early January 2025, there were instances where ICE agents were advised to prioritize discretion when dealing with him, even after he was caught driving without a license. Yet, they didn’t take action.
