Alonso’s Return to New York City
For the first time in his Major League Baseball career, Pete Alonso found himself visiting New York City as part of an opposing team. However, instead of heading to Citi Field to meet his former squad, the Baltimore Orioles were set to play against the New York Yankees in the Bronx.
As Alonso made his way back to the city, he encountered the famously congested traffic that New York is known for.
He shared his thoughts upon arriving, saying, “I flew into Newark and thought, ‘I’m definitely coming back because I hit an unbearable wall of traffic.'” He continued, jokingly reflecting on his return, “So it was definitely like, ‘Oh, okay, I’m here. I’m back. This is definitely New York.’
When prompted about traffic in Baltimore, Alonso quipped, “No, there is. It’s just not an unbearable traffic barrier.”
Since starting his career with the Mets in 2019, Alonso expressed his joy at being back in the city and reminiscing about his time there. His performance in the game reminded fans of his impressive rookie season, where he hit a record 53 home runs.
During the second inning, facing Yankees pitcher Will Warren, Alonso delivered a remarkable solo home run, sending the ball into the second deck of right field. The hit, which counted as his fifth of the season, was notable and perhaps one of the best moments of his career.
Fans watching the game experienced a nostalgic reminder of Alonso’s past, and there’s a buzz that it would be exciting to see him hit another home run when the Orioles play further games against the Yankees in the upcoming days.
