Kansas State University student Jack Fleischaker passes away after falling from a fraternity house window

Tragic Fall at Kansas State University

A freshman at Kansas State University sadly passed away after a fall from a window at his fraternity house, just weeks shy of the semester’s end.

Jack Fleischaker, who was 19 years old, jumped from a second-floor window of the Sigma Chi House around 3:15 a.m. on April 25. Unfortunately, he was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment but succumbed to his injuries three days later.

The Riley County Police are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances of this tragic accident but have indicated that foul play is not suspected.

“The RCPD extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the K-State community at this very tragic time,” the police department shared in a statement.

The fraternity remarked that Fleischaker’s death seems to be an accident. Michael Church, a spokesperson for Sigma Chi International Fraternity, stated, “This is a tragic accident, and there is no indication that anyone was at fault.” He added, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Jack’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. We are actively supporting our chapter with mental health and wellness resources, and we greatly appreciate the support from Kansas State University administrators.”

Originally from Overland Park, Kansas, Fleischaker was studying accounting and finance and was involved with the Sigma Chi fraternity, as seen on his social media profiles.

In light of this incident, Kansas State University is also reviewing the situation. A spokeswoman, Michelle Gearing, noted that the university has been providing support to families and resources for fraternity members. “We are reviewing the available information to determine next steps in accordance with our policies and procedures,” she stated.

This unfortunate event occurred four years after the national Sigma Chi organization closed the University of Kansas chapter for misconduct. However, there have been no recent issues reported with the Kansas State chapter.

Friends and family are understandably shaken by Fleischaker’s untimely death. Gar Demo, a pastor and family friend, remarked, “This is a tragic accident that no one expected.” He also reflected on how suddenly everything in their lives changed.

Demo shared that the family has already endured significant loss; Fleischaker’s sister Natalie passed away from brain cancer 13 years prior. “I think they have questions because they went through the incredible pain of losing a child at that time,” he said, expressing the bewilderment felt by many in their community.

In the days following the tragic fall, hundreds gathered at the hospital to pay their respects. It’s known that Fleischaker was an organ donor, and his selfless choice is expected to save lives.
