Jacob Misiorowski’s No-Hitter Bid Disrupted by Injury
Jacob Misiorowski was having a fantastic game until, all of a sudden, everything fell apart.
On Friday night in Washington, D.C., he seemed on track for a no-hitter. This momentum carried strong until the sixth inning.
With one out, he struck out James Wood of the Nationals on his first pitch but then was unexpectedly ejected due to right hamstring cramps.
This occurred after he pitched 85 pitches and had struck out four consecutive batters.
At 24 years old, he didn’t show signs of pain, yet a trainer was called in, and it was confirmed a few minutes later that he was dealing with a cramp.
Despite this setback, Misiorowski left the game after 5.1 hitless innings while the Brewers led 4-0, tallying eight strikeouts and two walks against the Nationals.
After his exit, Milwaukee brought in Aaron Ashby, who managed to maintain the no-hit status for a time, though they eventually allowed a run in the seventh inning from a double by Daylen Lyle.
Following the game, Manager Pat Murphy spoke about the All-Star’s injury, wanting to give more time for recovery: “We have a good feeling about it. I’m not going to test you right now because I’m worried you’ll have another seizure. We’ll see how you feel tomorrow.”
It appears the Brewers may have avoided a serious issue, which is a relief, especially considering that just recently, two-time All-Star starter Brandon Woodruff was placed on injured reserve with shoulder inflammation after leaving early in a previous start.
The Brewers’ rotation, besides Misiorowski and Woodruff, includes Kyle Harrison, Chad Patrick, and Brandon Sproat. Quinn Priester is currently working through rehabilitation in the minors, and Logan Hennerson is trying to prove himself worthy of the big leagues.
While the team has some depth, losing both Woodruff and Misiorowski for any length of time would certainly be a blow to the Brewers (who are currently 17-14).
In his second season, Misiorowski started seven games, achieving 59 strikeouts and a 2.84 ERA, placing him among the leaders in MLB this season and making him a contender for the National League Cy Young Award.
