Local Reporter’s Question to Mayor Reveals Future Concerns About Rapists and Murderers

Hello, readers.

Welcome to State of the Day. I’m here to cut through the fluff and give you the news straight—no frills. Have you ever considered what the world might look like if leftist ambitions were realized fully?

Katie Wilson, illegal immigrant, rapist, and murderer

Seattle’s Mayor Katie Wilson, who seems to have shed her usual decorum, appeared eager to distance herself from recent events.

Local journalist Chris Daniels approached her regarding a shooting incident that had occurred just days before, while she was announcing various “free” government services at a community center. When the shots fired, she quickly left the scene.

Daniels probed into her reaction following the shooting, noting that while she seemed shaken, she offered the typical line about “gun violence.” As he shifted to discuss surveillance cameras—which residents requested for security—she appeared ready to exit again. Her staff intervened, bringing the interview to an abrupt end.

Wilson’s position on surveillance is particularly notable. Personally, I’m not a fan of surveillance either. However, she hesitated to support it due to concerns that “federal immigration officials” might misuse the information (think: arresting and deporting undocumented individuals identified on camera).

This incident marks her second uncomfortable public moment in recent weeks, the first occurring during her appearance at Seattle University.

“I think the idea that billionaires will flee the state is a bit far-fetched. If they do want to leave, then bye,” she expressed.

That comment led to a response from Seattle AI entrepreneur Jesse Proudman, who noted that it felt incredibly dismissive. He shared, “Truth is, everyone I know with the means to retire has already done so or is in the process of it.”

Moreover, there’s compelling data showing that Washington state ranks last among all states in terms of “business survival rate,” according to a source focused on tax planning.

What lies ahead for cities like Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, and New York City if their political dreams come to fruition?

There’s a fundamental issue for socialist-minded leaders like Wilson. The labor of wealthy individuals they target for taxation is quite mobile. Unlike previous decades dominated by manufacturing and real estate—sectors that require significant infrastructure—today’s economy is led by services.

Industries such as healthcare, finance, technology, and communications have surged. Those in control have the freedom to reside anywhere; they may want to stay in a city, but their line of work doesn’t bind them to one location. They can relocate to places like Nashville, Texas, or Florida, achieving the same results from afar without the burdens of stringent regulations, high taxes, and, let’s face it, crime-related issues.

It’s a trend affecting various sectors, including retail. For instance, major companies like CVS and Walmart have been shutting down stores. Even the ever-popular Starbucks in Seattle is closing up shop.

This isn’t about a few isolated cases. Many businesses are finding ways to escape the repercussions of misguided urban policies.

As Stein van Neuerburg from Columbia University put it, this reflects an “economic doom loop.” While he specifically talked about the rise in population in cities post-pandemic, the implications are broader. As wealth departs, the need for productive labor becomes evident. The exodus leads to declining property values, shrinking the tax revenue that leaders like Wilson rely on for their “free” services.

So, what remains?

In my increasingly bleak urban environment, it seems all that lingers are “well-educated” Marxist ideologues, undocumented immigrants, criminals, and outlaws. The so-called “free” benefits are funded by municipal debt that only escalates over time. Can you imagine selling a city’s entire parking meter fleet for a loan of just $1 billion? Chicago did something similar.

What happens if Wilson’s vision materializes? It could leave behind a decaying American city.
