Kimmel and Rodgers Spar Over Jokes
Jimmy Kimmel, known for his late-night comedy, has long made controversial jokes about President Trump and his followers. Recently, he faced backlash for a remark regarding Melania Trump but hasn’t shown any willingness to apologize. This is somewhat ironic, as he previously had a strong reaction to a joke made by Aaron Rodgers.
During a segment on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers remarked, “A lot of people really want that, including Jimmy Kimmel.” Kimmel’s reply came during a January 2024 monologue, where he accused Rodgers of implying he was a pedophile. He seemed to question the integrity of those who associate political disagreements with such serious accusations.
Kimmel’s tirade included his perspective on the matter: “If you’re part of a group that thinks it’s okay to randomly call someone a child molester because you don’t like what they’re saying, you might want to reconsider being part of that group.” He also differentiated that such criticism doesn’t equally apply to labels like “Nazi,” a point made by Blaze TV host Pat Gray.
In Kimmel’s defense, CNN’s Jake Tapper called Rodgers’ comments “irresponsible.” Tapper stepped into the dispute, condemning Rodgers for making what he deemed false allegations about both Kimmel and convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, labeling them as “defamatory and not funny.”
Tapper criticized Rodgers for using his platform to share misleading information, adding to the critique that it was all quite irresponsible.
Gray, acknowledging the atmosphere, countered, “I think you’re protesting too much,” suggesting the situation might not be as serious as portrayed. Ultimately, it all boiled down to humor, with Gray adding that Rodgers intended it as a joke.
