Jaylen Brown’s Postgame Critique Draws Attention

The Boston Celtics found themselves under the spotlight, and not in a good way. After taking a 3-1 series lead against the Philadelphia 76ers, All-Star Jaylen Brown began to point fingers, starting with criticism of Sixers center Joel Embiid. He quickly turned his attention to the media, making some questionable remarks during a postgame livestream.

In his comments, Brown labeled Embiid a “failure,” suggesting he misled officials and the media. While his comments focused on Embiid, he seemed to deflect responsibility by criticizing the media’s role. “Clickbait is like deceiving the media and exaggerating contact. Everyone is safe here,” he stated.

This backlash was particularly notable because it came right after the Celtics failed to close out the series in three attempts, including a Game 7 loss at home against a 76ers team that had played significant games without their MVP.

Brown’s remarks sparked criticism from various quarters, including former teammate Jeff Teague, who shared his thoughts on “The Rich Eisen Show.” He described Brown’s comments as indicative of a “pathetic loser,” noting that they had a solid chance to win the game.

Interestingly, Brown referred to this season as his “favorite year,” a claim that many found hard to swallow given the disappointment of being eliminated in the first round.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith also weighed in, emphasizing the notable contract Brown has and pointing out the team’s position during the series. “You’re being paid over $300 million. You were 3-1. Did you say anything at that time? No,” Smith said, before attributing the loss to the team’s poor decision-making.

Indeed, Brown played a part in the team’s downfall, making questionable choices during crunch time when they opted for six straight three-pointers rather than attacking the basket.

As Kendrick Perkins summed it up on his podcast, the 76ers “walked into your crib with muddy shoes on and kicked their feet up on your coffee table.” Brown’s criticisms of both Embiid and the media seem to resonate with the broader narrative of a series where Boston had multiple opportunities to advance but fell short each time.
