Activists claim the safety strategy for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics depends too heavily on the Department of Homeland Security.

Left-wing activists are voicing concerns regarding the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Their unease stems from the organizing committee’s plan to lean heavily on police departments and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), particularly in light of recent immigration raids.

The Los Angeles Times noted that groups like the Fair Game Coalition and the Sunita Jain Anti-Human Trafficking Initiative have raised these objections. They expressed their discontent with the safety plan put forth by the LA28 organizing committee, which was highlighted in a human rights document released last month.

Activists have told a city council committee that the committee’s reliance on law enforcement is troubling. Many in the community feel that agencies like the police and DHS perpetuate fear, especially after a series of violent incidents involving immigrants.

The Human Rights Strategy emphasizes the federal role in events classified as “national special security events,” meaning that the DHS, along with local and state law enforcement, is expected to play a significant part in security management. This plan aims to ensure not just the safety of attendees but also of the communities hosting the events.

Martin Barrera of the Fair Game Coalition has publicly expressed regret over the involvement of DHS, particularly following past raids that led to the arrest of numerous immigrant workers. He stated, “This plan fails to protect those most at risk.”

Moreover, left-wing groups have ramped up pressure on the LA28 organization, especially after the recent inclusion of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and Trump’s ex-chief of staff, Reince Priebus, to the board. They previously criticized the presence of Trump allies and have sought the resignation of LA28 Chair Casey Wasserman.

Wasserman also faced backlash due to his name appearing in documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, sparking further controversy. In response to the scrutiny, he committed to selling his talent agency but opted to remain in his position at LA28.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the LA28 organizing committee but hasn’t received a response yet.
