Teens flood New Jersey carnival, leading to fights and closure

New Jersey Carnival Disrupted by Teen Takeover

A large group of teenagers overwhelmed a carnival in New Jersey, causing disturbances and leading to police intervention. This occurred during the Mapleshade Tigers Youth Football Carnival on May 1, prompting multiple altercations that required law enforcement to step in.

A county statement revealed that unsupervised minors had taken control of the event, resulting in chaos as fights broke out and the crowd swelled. Officials reported, “Police officers, along with event organizers, directed officials and other unruly persons to leave the carnival grounds to restore order and ensure public safety.” Consequently, the carnival was shut down for the night.

Due to the disturbances, authorities canceled the festivities on May 2, attributing the decision to the unruly behavior exhibited by teenagers. Lieutenant Daniel O’Brien from the Maple Shade Police noted that many of the teens tried to provoke confrontations with police officers.

“They were abusing the officers and clearly attempting to instigate a physical altercation,” O’Brien stated.

Following the incident, several youths were charged. O’Brien emphasized that parents should keep a closer eye on their children’s activities. He mentioned, “If your child leaves the house wearing a mask to go to a carnival, that might be a sign they’re up to no good.”

Town officials reiterated the priority of community safety, appreciating residents’ cooperation as they work to uphold a secure environment. Following previous similar incidents, police have increased monitoring at the carnival with added surveillance equipment.
