This Mother’s Day, Bobby Pulido isn’t exactly delivering a heartfelt gift for moms.
The Democratic congressional candidate from Texas has previously ridiculed the bodies of mothers during an appearance on a well-known Mexican talk show, making disparaging remarks about their private areas by saying they “flailed like seals.”
Pulido, aiming to change the Republican majority in his district, participated in the YouTube show “Zagal Desde El Bar” back in 2020. The atmosphere was more comedic than respectful, with Pulido laughing at the host’s crude comments regarding women.
The host, comedian José Luis Zagal, made a joke about a mother who, after seeing an ad for a medical center, sought help for “vaginal reconstruction.”
As Zagal recounted the story, he quoted the mother as saying, “I had 18 children and now this is happening to me.” Pulido’s response? Laughter, accompanied by fart noises.
Zagal emphasized how the humorous imagery might play out, saying, “When you urinate, the entire toilet bowl gets dirty. It flaps like a seal.” Pulido found humor in the situation, seemingly relishing the opportunity to joke about the challenges faced by women who experience childbirth.
Zagal then continued, citing that the mother would undergo an important surgical procedure: “Don’t worry…we’re going to do an important surgery, a vaginal reconstruction.” To which Pulido added, chuckling, “And it’s nice and tight now, buddy.”
Notably, Zagal faced criticism last month due to his affiliation with a bandmate who has a troubling past as a sex offender, although he initially gained fame as a Tejano singer known for performance on music and comedy shows.
Pulido, a former Latin Grammy winner, successfully won the Democratic primary for Texas’s 15th Congressional District, positioning himself as a moderate Democrat focused on family values. Nonetheless, his history is somewhat murky; he’s been involved in a music video portraying inappropriate behavior and has made various homophobic comments online.
A representative for Pulido did not provide a comment when contacted on Friday.
