Tampa police detain 22 individuals following a tumultuous gathering of teens at a city park.

Authorities in Florida have apprehended nearly 20 individuals following a chaotic viral teen gathering over the weekend.

This incident took place Friday evening at Curtis Hixon Park in Tampa, where a large, boisterous crowd reportedly created “significant disturbances, fights, and other issues in the park and nearby areas,” as stated by Tampa Police.

In response, officers were dispatched, and air patrols were initiated to monitor the young crowd. Body camera footage captured the frenzied moments when officers arrived and began making arrests.

“This kind of reckless and criminal behavior will not be tolerated in our city,” remarked Chief Lee Bercow in a statement. He further noted that what started as a large gathering quickly escalated into behavior that was both disruptive and dangerous to others.

Police reported that 22 individuals, ranging in age from 12 to 21, were arrested, and interestingly, only four of those apprehended were over the age of 18.

The offenses for which they were booked included a variety of charges such as assault, drug possession, and unlawful possession of a weapon. Two firearms and a vehicle were also confiscated at the scene.

“Parents should be aware of where their children are and who they’re with,” Bercow added. “The poor choices made by these 22 individuals could have long-lasting consequences that affect their futures.”

Inquiries have been directed to the Tampa Police Department for further comment.
