Updates on Cincinnati Assault Case

Five individuals have admitted guilt in connection with a violent incident that caught public attention in downtown Cincinnati last year.

On Monday, four of the men accepted felony charges related to the altercation, while a fifth person took a plea for misdemeanor offenses, as reported by the Cincinnati Enquirer.

This skirmish occurred around 3 a.m. on July 26, 2025, at the intersection of 4th Avenue and Elm Street.

The defense attorneys argue that the brawl was triggered by one of the victims allegedly using a racial slur directed at the group.

Details of the Incident

Footage of the brawl quickly spread across social media, with one particular video portraying a woman being knocked unconscious making millions of views.

Another segment of the clip displays a man being forcefully thrown down and receiving over twenty punches to his head.

Among those who entered guilty pleas for felonies are Jermaine Matthews, 39, Montianez Meriwether, 35, Gregory Wright, 33, and Aisha DeVaughn, 26, according to the Enquirer.

Matthews pleaded guilty to aggravated riot and attempted felony assault, which could lead to a maximum of 4.5 years in prison. His legal representative noted that the racial slur was aimed at him.

Surveillance footage captured Matthews approaching the victim, punching him, and subsequently, the victim slapped Matthews, leading to further violence.

Meriwether and DeVaughn faced charges of aggravated assault and aggravated riot, each potentially facing a three-year prison term.

Additional Charges and Ongoing Investigations

Wright, accused of snatching a chain from the victim’s neck during the fight, pleaded guilty to felony theft and misdemeanor riot—his most serious charge could result in 18 months behind bars.

Additionally, Dekila Vernon, 25, also admitted to misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct related to the episode.

Charges remain active for two other defendants, Patrick Rosemond, 39, and Dominic Kittle, 38, as noted by the Enquirer.

This assault raised concerns regarding potential racial motivations, prompting statements from political figures like Vice President J.D. Vance and Vivek Ramaswamy, who criticized the incident after it garnered widespread attention.

Scheduled sentencing for those who pled guilty will take place on May 19th and June 11th.
