Expansion of Recall for North Carolina Chocolate Brand
A chocolate brand from North Carolina, known for sweetening its treats with dates, is extending its recall due to potential salmonella contamination concerns.
Spring & Mulberry offers 12 different product lines. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration expanded the recall after investigators suggested that a certain batch of dates could be linked to the contamination, as reported on Sunday.
Dates, which come from date palm trees, are recognized for their high nutritional value and frequently used as a natural sweetener, particularly in tropical areas. They are not only sweet but also boast a caramel-like flavor, providing a good balance of fiber, nutrients, and antioxidants, making them a preferred alternative to white sugar in many recipes.
The chocolate brand initially expanded its recall in January, identifying various flavors at that time including Earl Grey, Lavender Rose, and Pecan Date, among others.
Recent updates show that the recall now includes Blood Orange, Coffee, Pure Dark, and Sea Salt varieties as well. So far, the products have tested negative for salmonella, and thankfully, there are no reported cases of illness.
According to the FDA, these products were made available for purchase both online and through select retailers across the nation since August 2025. The report also lists several lot numbers associated with the affected items.

Salmonella is a bacterial infection that can lead to symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain. Typically, the bacteria live in the intestines of animals and humans, spreading through their feces. Most often, people contract it from contaminated food or water.
