Former MLB pitcher Noah Syndergaard criticizes Zohran Mamdani, highlighting Mets issues amidst New York's turmoil

What is Accountability?

Megan Rapinoe revisited a topic she’s passionate about, backing Angel Reese’s choice to sidestep the media. However, Dan Dakich disagrees. He questions how avoiding media obligations equates to “taking back power.” Dakich argues that this current trend in sports culture—empowering all while sidestepping responsibility—might actually be detrimental to the advancement of women’s sports.

In a separate discussion, former Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard expressed his thoughts on the team’s struggles and the political landscape in New York City during an appearance on OutKick’s “Tomi Lahren Is Fearless.”

Currently, the Mets are at the bottom of the NL East, and Syndergaard believes the challenges extend beyond just what’s happening on the field.

Speaking with fan Tomi Lahren, he pointed out how the departures of popular players like Brandon Nimmo and Pete Alonso reflect broader issues in the city.

“It’s ironic,” Syndergaard said. “Those guys, along with Jacob deGrom, are among the most conservative teammates I’ve had. It’s just wild what’s going on in New York right now.”

Despite the chaos, he acknowledged that the allure of playing in New York remains strong.

“If I were still with the Mets or Yankees, I’d be thinking how incredible it is to play here. Sure, you can tune out the madness and just focus on enjoying the game in such an amazing city,” he noted.

However, Syndergaard raised a thought-provoking point about the city’s leadership, referring to Zoran Mamdani, the 34-year-old democratic socialist mayor.

He expressed disbelief that someone so young, with what he sees as limited qualifications, is in charge of such an iconic metropolis.

“It’s baffling that a 34-year-old without real job experience is running New York City,” he remarked.

The challenges for the Mets extend beyond typical team struggles, as they grapple with their identity and performance while paying hefty salaries without delivering corresponding success.

Lahren further criticized Mayor Mamdani, suggesting his political leanings could be influencing the city negatively.

When asked what advice he would give to struggling teams, Syndergaard jokingly mentioned, “Maybe stop associating with socialist mayors?”

He later reflected on his time with the Mets, noting, “I feel justified saying this since I’ve worn the orange and blue for eight years. It’s disappointing to see both the clubhouse dynamics and their lack of success. It just doesn’t add up. They have big salaries, but it’s not translating into performance.”

As Mamdani pushes his agenda, it appears that the Mets may feel the repercussions of the city’s political atmosphere. Until they part ways with certain ideologies, it seems like they might just continue to attract misfortune.
