Tragic Loss of Mississippi Father While Fishing

A Mississippi father, Jacob Nitkiewicz, and a newlywed couple tragically lost their lives after being shot while fishing at a local park. Authorities have labeled the incident as a “tragic accident.”

Nitkiewicz, 31 years old, was discovered dead from a gunshot wound around 1 a.m. on Saturday at Flint Creek Water Park, a regional park approximately 190 miles south of Jackson. This park features a sizable 650-acre lake ideal for fishing, boating, and swimming, according to police reports.

The Stone County Coroner, Wayne Fleury, shared that an autopsy is currently in progress, but he suspects the shooting was an unfortunate accident.

Local police emphasized the shooting was an “isolated incident,” assuring the public that there was no ongoing threat. Details about Nitkiewicz’s death remain limited.

Investigations are being conducted by the Wiggins Police Department in collaboration with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.

Nitkiewicz, a father of one, had recently celebrated four months of marriage with MacKenzie, who had been his girlfriend for 13 years. Their recent honeymoon in Colorado Springs occurred just a few months prior to his untimely death.

In response to this loss, a GoFundMe has been created to aid his wife and young daughter, Emersyn.

The fundraising page highlighted, “Jacob was a wonderful husband and a proud and loving father, the heart of their home.” It also noted the difficulties that Mackenzie and Emersyn now face without him.

Friends and family fondly recalled Nitkiewicz’s strong work ethic and commitment to his loved ones. His obituary reflected that he took pride in being both a husband and father, dedicating himself to supporting and celebrating his family.

“Jacob enthusiastically recognized every milestone in Emersyn’s life, from dance to piano recitals, and cheerleading tournament wins,” his obituary stated.

He had recently reached a significant career milestone, being promoted to manager at Delta Tire World after four years of service, a move celebrated in his obituary as a mark of his hard work and leadership.

Beyond his professional life, Nitkiewicz was an outdoor enthusiast who cherished traveling, fishing, camping, and hiking. His obituary expressed that he prioritized family time, creating lasting memories.

“His accomplishments are reflected in the love, encouragement, and dedication he demonstrated daily,” the tribute concluded.
