Son of 'Duck Dynasty' star reveals details about wife's affair in new Lifetime movie

Al and Lisa Robertson Discuss Infidelity and Forgiveness

Al Robertson, the eldest son of “Duck Dynasty” stars Phil and Kay Robertson, believes that an affair doesn’t have to spell the end of a marriage. This perspective is explored in the new Lifetime movie “Faith & Forgiveness,” premiering Saturday. The film portrays the couple’s journey through Lisa’s involvement in an extramarital affair, which occurred 15 years after their wedding, and how their faith helped mend their relationship.

“Infidelity often signals the end, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be that way,” Al shared. “There can be resolutions.”

Reflecting on why he chose to fight for his marriage, Al noted, “I’ve made my own mistakes,” adding that Lisa was looking for guidance during tough times. “I wasn’t that person for quite a while.” They met as teenagers in a McDonald’s parking lot in West Monroe, Louisiana, eventually marrying in 1984. Over the years, Al served as a pastor, while Lisa often felt alone during his absences.

Al admitted that neglecting to make Lisa a partner in their life together significantly affected his career and dreams. “She had her own struggles from a young age that I didn’t fully recognize,” he explained.

Lisa revealed that she faced childhood trauma, recalling that from a young age, she’d been sexually abused, which instigated a cycle of dishonesty within her life. This darkness, she said, intensified as she grew older.

Eventually, an old boyfriend resurfaced in Lisa’s life, leading to an affair. Al became suspicious, yet Lisa consistently denied any wrongdoing. “I prayed during this time, hoping God would provide a way for me to leave unnoticed,” Lisa confessed, worried about hurting her family and uncertain about the state of their marriage.

Using cell phone records, Al put together the pieces of the truth, and they agreed to separate temporarily. “For weeks, I thought it was over,” he reflected. “Could I actually trust again? Did she even want to stay married?”

Lisa had a pivotal moment when she cried out to God for forgiveness, marking a significant shift in her faith. “I finally laid everything bare to God; it was a turning point for me.”

After her baptism and surrounded by supportive women, Lisa sought counseling alongside Al. “I changed my makeup and how I communicated,” she noted, emphasizing a genuine desire to improve.

Through their struggles, Al recognized his past infidelities. Miraculously, Lisa forgave him, leading him to question his own capacity for forgiveness. Al found that Lisa’s growth as a person inspired him: “If she can change, perhaps I can too.”

In December 1999, they renewed their vows, united in faith and love. Now, they travel the country, sharing their story to help others navigate similar challenges in their relationships. Al mentioned they’re happier than ever.

“For a marriage to thrive—in every aspect—it takes honesty,” Lisa asserted. “Seeing each other through a lens of love is essential.”
