Former Disney actress Maitland Ward has expressed her dissatisfaction with how Sidney Sweeney represented an OnlyFans model in the third season of Euphoria. In a recent conversation, she highlighted specific scenes involving Sweeney’s character, Cassie, where her actions seemed to blur lines, specifically in moments where she’s depicted with suggestive poses and childlike accessories.
Ward remarked, “There are so many things you can’t do. The whole thing about kids and babies is really disgusting… You can never go into something like that about a minor. It’s fine if it’s goofy and silly, but this feels so inappropriate. The way it’s handled is just wrong.” She pointed out that such portrayals contradict OnlyFans’ guidelines, illustrating her concern for protecting the integrity of adult content.
In the current season, Cassie uses OnlyFans to navigate personal financial troubles after her husband, Nate Jacobs, portrayed by Jacob Elordi, faces bankruptcy right after their wedding. The character’s antics include dressing provocatively and performing odd stunts for subscribers, which Ward believes trivializes the work of serious content creators.
She claimed that these portrayals don’t glorify the platform but instead mock those who rely on it to earn a living. “That speaks to how strange and creepy they are,” she stated. “Many creators work hard to build their brands, and this misrepresents their reality.”
Ward, a former child actor, has opened up about her own experiences in the industry, discussing the pressures young actors face in an episode of “Hollywood Demons.” She reflected on her time starring in shows like “Boy Meets World,” describing how studios often sought to mold young performers into marketable products. At the time, she thought these pressures were just part of the process.
Making a significant career shift, Ward transitioned to adult films about seven years ago and feels more respected now than during her earlier career. She commented on how her decision surprised those around her, emphasizing that she has faced little negativity for her choices. “I felt really positive about it,” she mentioned, indicating how much self-acceptance has contributed to her current outlook.
