Watching a Lakers playoff game is truly an exhilarating experience for families.
The Lakers are not just a basketball team; they embody a blend of a Broadway spectacle, a Hollywood event, and a sports extravaganza. You’ll find a constellation of celebrities, packed crowds, and the chance to see the 17-time NBA champions, including stars like LeBron James and Luka Doncic.
However, it came at a hefty price for one family of four who wanted to witness the Lakers get swept by the Thunder on Monday night. A heartbreaking way to end the season, for sure.
The Thunder clinched the sweep with a nail-biting 115-110 win in Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals, leaving Los Angeles in a long offseason filled with uncertainty surrounding figures like LeBron and Austin Reeves, as well as the future of this storied franchise.
While Oklahoma City delivered a blow on the court, Lakers fans felt the hit in their finances.
According to new analysis from The Action Network, it cost a staggering $2,615.01 for a family of four to attend Game 4 at Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles. This total includes tickets, parking, food, drinks, and merchandise. In contrast, the average expense for a family to catch a regular season game is about $677.64.
It’s possible that ticket prices ballooned because fans were eager to witness what might be LeBron’s last game as a Laker.
Meanwhile, families in Oklahoma City enjoyed Games 1 and 2 at Paycom Center for only $1,796.09—nearly $1,000 less than their counterparts in Los Angeles.
Interestingly, neither Los Angeles nor Oklahoma City held the title for the most or least expensive playoff experience among the eight teams in the semifinals.
In a surprising twist, Knicks fans faced the steepest costs; a family of four paid $3,611.73 to attend Game 1 and Game 2 against the 76ers at Madison Square Garden. That’s comparable to the cost of a used car, or perhaps, just a bucket of popcorn elsewhere.
On the flip side, the Cavaliers in Cleveland offered the most budget-friendly option, with a family of four paying only $1,330.96 for a game against the Pistons.
As the NBA Finals loom in June, Lakers fans might find solace in their team not taking the court anymore. But for Thunder and Knicks supporters, it looks like they’ll need to keep a close eye on their wallets as the chase for the championship continues.
