Maher: Every Democratic Candidate Allows Actual Antisemites to Attack Israel During Times of Heightened Fear of Eliminating Jews

Bill Maher Criticizes People Hoping for Trump's Death in Latest Assassination Attempt

Bill Maher Critiques Democrats on Anti-Semitism

During the closing monologue of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher expressed concern over rising anxiety surrounding anti-Semitism. He suggested that instead of addressing this issue, Democrats are more focused on appealing to younger voters influenced by social media. Maher pointed out that many potential Democratic presidential candidates want to signal their distance from AIPAC, the Israeli lobby, which he believes provides a narrative for anti-Semites to rationalize their views.

Maher remarked, “It seems like it’s become almost natural to express anti-Semitic views in a free society. While people hide behind discussions of Israel and related issues, it’s clear that when it comes to human rights, some view Israel as one of the worst offenders in history. The irony is, if you think that, maybe you should explore the many countries with worse records.” He noted places like China and Iran often get far less scrutiny, which he sees as contradictory. “These discussions sometimes feel like something out of a white supremacist website,” he said, referencing a prominent liberal publication.

The host continued, touching on the shared ground between the left and the right regarding certain perspectives. He highlighted that right-wing media figures host Holocaust deniers, while far-left voices are equally extreme, with comments calling for harsh actions against Zionists. Maher questioned if this is what being progressive has turned into.

He went on to explain the unique environment cultivated in American high schools, suggesting that both extremists on various sides come from a similar lack of understanding. Maher posed a rhetorical question about the founding of Israel, emphasizing that its creation was rooted in the need for safety and security against anti-Semitism.

He lamented the Democrats’ inaction, saying, “If other minority groups faced such discussions, there would be public outcry. Yet, it’s surprising how many are swayed by social media to view Israel negatively. The party should be stepping in to address these misconceptions.” He suggested that left-leaning politicians need to clarify Israel’s position to counteract this narrative. Maher expressed frustration with those who challenge his criticism of Democrats, urging them to consider how they approach the issue moving forward.
