An NPR podcast host has departed from the public radio network following an internal investigation into complaints regarding his behavior in the workplace, particularly from female employees.
Ramtin Arabloui, who co-hosted NPR’s “Through Line,” has left the organization after a female colleague lodged a complaint about his conduct. This prompted an investigation, as reported by sources familiar with the situation.
It’s still unclear whether Arabloui’s resignation directly stemmed from this inquiry.
He hadn’t been seen co-hosting “Through Line” for some time, and there have been no official comments from either him or NPR about his absence.
The investigation into Arabloui’s alleged inappropriate behavior began in March when a colleague reported an unsettling incident involving the 43-year-old host.
According to sources, the employee shared concerns that Arabloui had made her uncomfortable through unprofessional remarks during team meetings.
He reportedly disclosed personal details about female employees in private meetings, which raised concerns among them.
Additionally, it’s alleged that Arabloui made dubious comments regarding a team member’s appearance during a meeting, along with inappropriate remarks about “racial mixing.”
There were also claims that Arabloui had engaged in affairs with guests and temporary staff involved with the show.
According to multiple sources, NPR’s senior general counsel, Ari Parker, conducted interviews with “Through Line” staff over several weeks regarding these complaints.
By April 1, Parker informed the employee that a number of her allegations had been substantiated.
On the same date, staff were notified at a meeting that Arabloui would be leaving NPR, though no specific reasons were given.
Two weeks later, NPR announced that Ran Abdelfattah, Arabloui’s co-host, would inform listeners she was now the podcast’s sole host.
NPR’s spokesperson, Heather Walls, mentioned that they take all workplace conduct issues seriously and aim to maintain a respectful work environment.
The station has yet to make an official announcement about Arabloui’s exit.
Vice President of Podcast Strategy Yolanda Sangweni recently informed staff that she is collaborating with the “Through Line” team on the show’s future.
As of Saturday, Arabloui’s profile on the NPR website no longer lists him as a co-host, even though his archive of past work remains accessible.
Interestingly, his Instagram still identifies him as a “host/producer of NPR’s podcast ‘Through Line.'”
Having been with NPR since 2015, Arabloui has played a role in creating various prominent shows, including “How I Built This” and “TED Radio Hour.”
The Post attempted to reach out to Arabloui and NPR for comments but did not receive any response.
