Trump Endorses Paxton in Texas Senate Race
After a period filled with speculation, former President Donald Trump has publicly endorsed Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton for the upcoming Texas Senate race.
On Tuesday, Trump shared his endorsement on Truth Social. This announcement comes just days before the Republican runoff election where Paxton will face longtime Senator John Cornyn.
“I fully support Ken Paxton to be the next U.S. senator from Texas. Ken Paxton will never let you down!” Trump expressed.
In his message, Trump emphasized Paxton’s loyalty to him and the “MAGA movement,” noting the attorney general’s strong conservative stance and commitment to Republican initiatives.
“I know Ken well and have seen him tested at the highest and most difficult levels, and he is a winner!” Trump stated, adding that Paxton is a strong advocate for ending the filibuster and pivotal legislation like the American Rescue Act.
Neither Paxton nor Cornyn achieved the necessary 50% support to clinch the Republican nomination in a crowded primary held in March, leading to a runoff on May 26.
Initially, Trump opted to remain neutral in the race but chose to endorse Paxton as early voting for the runoff commenced.
“Some people say the person I support will win,” Trump remarked. “I don’t know if that’s true, but historically it’s absolutely true. I just don’t like to say it because I don’t like to brag.”
