How Trump navigates mistakes by sticking to his message and repeating it

Trump needs to prioritize American hostages at the important Beijing summit.

Donald Trump is often seen as skilled at altering historical narratives. He can easily label TikTok as both a national security risk and a societal necessity. It’s interesting to think back on his claim about not losing supporters even if he shot someone on Fifth Avenue. Maybe there’s some truth to that, particularly among his strong supporters. He certainly knows how to drive his point home through relentless repetition.

Recently, Trump has been surrounded by heightened security in the White House, even implementing significant changes in processes.

Take, for instance, how he repeatedly praised the January 6 rioters as patriots. This is despite them engaging in violent actions that led to harm against police and breaking into government offices. At that time, many within the Republican party believed that Trump’s political career was over. Yet, he would not let that narrative take hold. He continued to argue that the events of January 6 weren’t a big deal, despite what many observers saw as a serious breach of security.

While he had a tough time with many major Republican officials at that moment, Trump’s unwavering message found an audience. It’s almost as if he’s that guy in a crowded area, loudly asserting his opinions for anyone to hear.

And now he’s still mulling over the outcomes of the 2016 election, claiming the 2020 vote was fraudulent, a assertion that’s yet to find legal footing. Recently, Trump made headlines for planning to settle an IRS lawsuit by establishing a $1.7 billion fund that aims to support January 6 protestors, some of whom faced serious legal consequences for their actions.

During his presidency, he dealt with multiple criminal investigations that many believe only fueled his desire for vengeance. There was the time he urged Ukraine’s president to initiate an investigation into Joe Biden and his son, following the freezing of significant aid approved by Congress.

Trump considered that call with Zelensky a flawless move, even when the Senate did not convict him over impeachment. His rhetoric regarding Iran has been similarly erratic, oscillating between threats and reassurances, leaving many perplexed. He declared, at one point, that the entire civilization would face dire consequences, only to later prolong deadlines and dismiss responses as futile.

Despite his proclamations of military success against Iran, he has also managed to stir up conversations about possible diplomatic agreements—much to the interest of the media.

Interestingly, even amid low approval ratings and involvement in overseas conflicts, Trump hasn’t strayed far from his earlier focuses. Reports suggest his administration has been quietly negotiating with Greenland for a heightened U.S. presence, tactics that have sparked unease among local leadership.

Really, Greenland again? Trump is capable of stirring up news on a multitude of fronts. We seem to be stuck in this continual “Trumpworld,” and there’s every indication that we’ll be facing more controversies in the lead-up to major events like Memorial Day. It seems like a fair guess at this point.
