Cavaliers’ Dennis Schroder Faces Backlash After Game 1 Loss

After the Cleveland Cavaliers fell to the New York Knicks in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, some fans felt that guard Dennis Schroder perhaps missed the mark with his recent Instagram post.

Despite the Cavaliers initially leading by 22 points, Schroder shared a photo collage celebrating the Knicks’ 115-104 overtime victory at Madison Square Garden. One of the highlights was his matchup with Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, who delivered an impressive performance with 38 points.

Schroder’s post, simply captioned “0:1,” also featured a picture of his outfit—a black and white sweatsuit from his own clothing line, That’s Tough.

No, Dennis Schroeder is fried lol lol 😭😭. We just took a 22 point lead in the playoffs, and the first thing he did was go to IG, record “0:1” and take a shower.

This post’s timing sparked some uncomfortable reactions on social media. One commentator pointed out the stark contrast between past warriors and today’s players who seem more focused on social media than the game itself. Schroder defended himself by stating that his post was made towards the end of the game.

Interestingly, the comment section of his post featured fans who were quite supportive. In the game, Schroder struggled, scoring only three points and making just one of nine shots.

The one posting in the locker room—certain users couldn’t help but express their disbelief with laughing emojis.

“Brother, why are you posting this after that?” questioned another user.

The Cavaliers had a strong performance for most of the game, only to be overtaken by the Knicks in the closing minutes.

Brunson contributed to the Knicks’ success, scoring 17 points while his team surged ahead with a 44-11 run with just under 13 minutes remaining.

Schroder wasn’t alone in his shooting difficulties. Teammate Donovan Mitchell, who tallied 29 points, missed all five of his shots during the game’s crucial minutes and only made four out of eleven attempts from beyond the arc.

Veteran James Harden also had a rough outing, scoring 15 points while managing a dismal one-for-eight from three-point range, coupled with the team’s six turnovers.

The two teams will face off again on Thursday at Madison Square Garden, heightening the stakes as the series continues.
