Rep. Jim Jordan Applauds House Housing Affordability Legislation

Support for Housing Affordability Bill

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) expressed his full backing for the House’s housing affordability bill in a conversation with Breitbart News. He noted that the bill addresses some constitutional concerns raised regarding the Senate version.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) along with other House Republican leaders formed an agreement with President Trump on this housing legislation.

The House plans to pass the modified bill on Wednesday and send it over to the Senate for further consideration.

A White House official mentioned, “Thanks to these changes, the White House supports the House housing bill.”

Jordan praised the work of House Financial Services Committee Chairman French Hill (R-Ark.) in spearheading the bill. He stated, “Speaker French Hill has done excellent work on this important bill, including addressing potential constitutional concerns in the Senate version, and we fully support the House’s position.”

The House’s proposal aligns more closely with the Senate’s ROAD to Housing Act, yet the Senate’s stipulation requiring single-family homes owned by large institutional investors to be sold to private buyers within seven years remains a sticking point. The Senate bill seeks to curb Wall Street’s dominance over single-family homes, but the House version is less restrictive.

Hill emphasized, “This bill prioritizes American families by expanding homeownership, increasing affordability, reducing burdensome regulations that drive up costs, and increasing the supply of housing across the country. Importantly, it is responding to President Trump’s call to restrict institutional investors from competing with Americans seeking to buy homes.”

Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), the Ranking Member of the House Financial Services Committee, noted, “The House has proven that bipartisan action is possible. Now is the time for the Senate to respond to the urgency of the moment, work together in good faith, and finally deliver the bold bicameral action that the American people have long demanded and deserve.”
