Hunter Biden's apparent return to X raises concerns and reactions from lawmakers and online figures

Hunter Biden’s New X Account Draws Mixed Reactions

A newly activated X account under the name of Hunter Biden, the former president’s son, stirred up quite the buzz after its first post on Tuesday. The response from Republican lawmakers and social media users has been largely negative, filled with ridicule and mockery.

Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn chimed in with a tweet that said, “Your laptop’s reputation comes before you,” in a direct reply to the @HunterBiden account. Fox News Digital attempted to reach out to both X and the Hunter Biden Art Gallery for confirmation of the account’s authenticity but received no response. Interestingly, the account has quickly attracted thousands of followers and interactions since its debut.

The initial post read, “I’m Hunter Biden. You’ve never actually heard from me,” which only fueled the curiosity and skepticism about the account. The profile description identifies Hunter as an “Artist. Writer. Recovery advocate.”

At 56, Hunter is making a public comeback as he tries to reshape his image following years marred by controversies surrounding drug addiction, legal issues, and scrutiny of his personal life.

The X account @HunterBiden, originally created in 2013, is linked to Hunter’s art gallery website, which also connects to a YouTube page and a Substack account. The launch of the tweet triggered a cascade of derision aimed at Hunter, with some users humorously speculating about his potential for a 2028 political run.

Indiana Senator Jim Banks remarked, “Trust me, we have heard and seen enough from you.” Meanwhile, Missouri Republican Jason Smith added to the critique. Many social media users quickly resurfaced old controversies surrounding Hunter, even tossing around the idea of him as a possible political candidate.

A conservative commentator, Nick Souter, noted on a show that “this is going to be a good thing.” He added that there’s a chance Hunter might not even remember what he’s said in recent podcast appearances.

Perhaps as a nod to his renewed media presence, Candace Owens tagged the Hunter Biden X account in a promotional video for an upcoming interview with him, and the account reposted this with a message suggesting he has answers for her questions.

Legal and Personal Challenges

Hunter Biden has faced a slew of legal battles, including scrutiny over foreign dealings, tax evasion, and gun charges. Notably, he was pardoned by President Joe Biden for crimes possibly committed between January 1, 2014, and December 1, 2024, prior to his father’s exit from office.

In September 2024, he pleaded guilty to nine federal tax charges in California, relating to over $1.4 million in unpaid taxes for the years 2016 to 2019. Earlier, in June 2024, he was convicted in Delaware for lying on a federal application to purchase a firearm, admitting drug use at the time.

In 2021, Hunter released a memoir titled *Beautiful Things*, reflecting on his experiences with severe drug addiction and family tragedies.
