In a recent interview with CNBC, Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, shared his thoughts on President Donald Trump’s second term, suggesting that he has become more “mature” and disciplined compared to his earlier presidency. He mentioned, “I’m comparing him to his first term, and I think he’s more mature and more disciplined than he was in his first term.” Bezos expressed a willingness to continue contributing to the administration, emphasizing that business leaders should provide insights regardless of who occupies the presidency.
He firmly stated his allegiance to America, highlighting his past collaborations with various presidents, including Barack Obama and Joe Biden. “I’m on America’s side, and that’s very important. Like, that’s where business leaders should be,” he noted, expressing slight frustration over perceptions of partisanship among business leaders. He recalled that he had, in fact, supported past administrations in discussions and decisions.
Bezos also commented on Trump’s ideas, claiming they deserved recognition. Early in Trump’s tenure, he had noted that the president seemed more relaxed, a change he found notable.
During the discussion, there was a mention of the documentary “Melania,” which highlights the life of the former first lady. When asked about some critics’ views regarding possible motivations behind the documentary, Bezos clarified that any notion linking him to a political agenda was unfounded. He mentioned, “Yes, the Melania thing is an indelible falsehood,” asserting that he had no involvement with the project, despite its commercial success. He remarked, somewhat positively, that it appeared to be a smart business move by Amazon, even if he didn’t oversee it directly.
Additionally, Bezos addressed another successful Amazon project, the movie “Project Hail Mary,” emphasizing that such decisions are typical for large corporations and shouldn’t be misconstrued as attempts to wield political influence. He reiterated that he had no role in the film but considered it a good choice in terms of business strategy.
In the interview, Bezos faced questions about the Washington Post, which he owns, particularly regarding job cuts at the publication. The conversation seemed to traverse multiple key topics, reflecting on the interplay between business and politics while also touching on media successes.
