Tragic Death of 4-Year-Old Girl Shakes Local Community
The identity of a 4-year-old girl found deceased in a parked car in Valley Village has been confirmed, raising concerns within the tight-knit Jewish community.
On Wednesday, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office identified her as Adina Nebo.
The Los Angeles Police Department reported that emergency services responded to the 12700 block of McCormick Street around 3:51 p.m. following a report of a medical emergency involving a child.
Upon arrival, paramedics discovered the girl unresponsive in the vehicle. Unfortunately, personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced her dead at the scene.
Initially, authorities were treating the situation as a potential child abuse case, but it soon developed into a death investigation.
A family source, who spoke anonymously, mentioned that Adina had participated in a neighborhood carpool earlier that day, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
According to officials, she was still in the car when her mother came to pick her up from kindergarten.
However, investigators have yet to clarify why the girl remained in the vehicle or how long she had been inside.
On Tuesday, temperatures in the San Fernando Valley reached the low 80s.
The coroner has not officially determined the cause of death, noting only that it occurred inside the car.
Residents expressed that the tragedy had profoundly impacted Valley Village’s devout Jewish community, where many families share close ties.
At least two neighbors mentioned that the girl’s father was driving for a morning carpool, allegedly unaware that Adina hadn’t exited the car, according to ABC 7.
The investigation is being led by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Juvenile Division, in collaboration with the Battered Children Unit.
Capt. Warner Castillo remarked on the incident, calling it a “possible murder.” Detectives are actively interviewing witnesses and trying to piece together a timeline.
As of now, no one is in custody.
