Florida Man Arrested in Father’s Disappearance

A man from Florida was apprehended on Monday after a body, believed to be his father, was discovered buried on a property in Marion County. This arrest came during the investigation into his father’s disappearance, as detailed in documents reviewed by authorities.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office began looking into the case of 43-year-old Andres Bahamon Prada on May 16, following a report from his family that he had not been seen since May 7.

Reports indicate that Bahamon Prada lived in Dunnellon with his son, 25-year-old Andres Bahamon.

As the investigation progressed, detectives uncovered indications of potential foul play in Bahamon Prada’s case, prompting them to treat it as a homicide investigation.

Initially, Bahamon informed deputies that he last saw his father on the evening of May 7 when Bahamon Prada returned home, claiming that an unknown individual was on their way to pick him up, as noted in the affidavit.

Moreover, detectives noticed that Bahamon Prada’s silver 2007 Infiniti M35 vanished from the property days later and has not been found.

The victim’s mother later informed investigators that she suspected Bahamon had killed his father after a nearby encounter at a local store. She mentioned that he had expressed feelings that his father was an “evil person” and a “drug addict” deserving of death.

After deputies visited the Dunnellon property on May 18, they noted bullet holes in a broken glass door, shell casings by the porch, bloodstains in the backyard, and freshly disturbed soil.

Additionally, investigators learned that Bahamon allegedly sent his mother, residing in Germany, an image of a man who seemed to be dead near a wooden staircase at their residence. The photo reportedly showed a man matching Bahamon Prada’s description lying still next to the stairs, with a large red stain evident around his head and shirt.

Following this revelation, detectives obtained a search warrant for the property, discovering a large rolled-up carpet buried under the recently disturbed earth.

According to the affidavit, detectives examined the area and detected an odor indicative of decomposition.

Ultimately, authorities identified what appeared to be human remains within the carpet, but the identification process was still ongoing.

As the investigation continued, Bahamon was identified as a person of interest and detained on Monday, facing charges of tampering with evidence related to the missing persons case.

Investigators believe he may have concealed or removed his father’s body to hinder the homicide investigation.

Authorities are still searching for Bahamon Prada’s missing silver 2007 Infiniti M35, which may hold crucial evidence regarding the case. Anyone with information on the vehicle or the ongoing investigation is encouraged to contact the Marion County Sheriff’s Office at 352-732-9111.
