Trump expresses his hopes for reality TV star Spencer Pratt to succeed in the LA race

Trump Shows Support for Spencer Pratt in Los Angeles Mayoral Race

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump addressed reporters at Joint Base Andrews and expressed his endorsement for Spencer Pratt, the former reality TV star vying for the Los Angeles mayoral position.

Trump stated, “Yes, I want to see him do well. He’s a man of character.” Although unfamiliar with Pratt personally, he speculated on the candidate’s alignment with his political views, asking the press, “Does he support me?”

When asked if he noticed any similarities between himself and Pratt, Trump remarked, “I heard yes. I heard he’s a big MAGA guy. He’s fine.”

Pratt Emerges as a Presence in the Mayoral Race

Spencer Pratt has gained notable attention throughout the campaign, particularly following a heated debate. He’s been vocal about his dissatisfaction with the incumbent Mayor Karen Bass, especially in light of the devastating wildfires that harmed his family. In January 2025, he and his wife, Heidi Montag, lost their home in the Pacific Palisades, and he attributes his decision to run for mayor partly to Bass’s alleged mismanagement of the wildfire aftermath.

Reflecting on the situation a year later, Pratt expressed, “The most heartbreaking thing last year was not being displaced or losing all of our possessions, but the realization that all of this was avoidable.” He officially announced his candidacy on January 7, 2026, marking the anniversary of the fire.

Pratt articulated his frustrations with Mayor Bass, noting, “She was in Ghana while our lives were literally burning.” He has been camping out in an Airstream trailer on the site of his former home, but has faced threats that forced him to seek temporary housing during his campaign, which at times included luxury hotels.

His campaign has attracted attention for his controversial videos and strong stance on issues like homelessness and drug addiction, advocating for tougher measures against repeat offenders and those involved in street crime.

Despite trailing in several polls, there’s been a noticeable lift in his support; a recent poll indicated he surged from 10% to 22% in just a few months, although Bass maintains a leading position at about 30%.

Election Dynamics and Upcoming Votes

The primary election is set for June 2, with possibilities for candidates to secure a win if they achieve over 50% of votes. If not, the top two candidates will proceed to a head-to-head general election in November.

The situation is unfolding as candidates continue to prepare, and Fox News Digital has reached out for further commentary from Pratt, Bass, and the California Secretary of State.
