Adam Schefter dampens recent trade speculation about A.J. Brown

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter mentioned he’s anticipating a trade that could bring Eagles receiver AJ Brown to the Patriots, even if other teams might express interest.

On a recent episode of his podcast, Schefter, alongside Ty Schmidt on “The Pat McAfee Show,” focused on the trade possibilities for Brown. He was quite firm in his belief that Brown will end up with former coach Mike Vrabel in Foxborough.

Brown played for Vrabel during their time with the Titans from 2019 to 2021.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo revealed on “The Rich Eisen Show” that the Rams came very close to signing Brown earlier this offseason.

As June 1 approaches, Schefter noted an increase in discussions around AJ Brown. While he was on a radio show in Philadelphia, there were mentions of the Rams and Jaguars possibly coming back into play, which piqued his interest.

He said, “I’m going to stay in camp, which I’ve been to for the last six or seven weeks, but I still feel that way.” He believes Brown, who has been in the spotlight, is likely to be traded around June 1 or shortly after the NFL’s tender deadline. Schefter maintains that the Patriots are positioning themselves to acquire Brown this offseason.

“I’m not concerned with what other teams are doing regarding AJ Brown trade talks. They’ve had their chances this offseason. The Rams had discussions that didn’t end in a deal, and I’m uncertain about the Jaguars—where that came from is a bit unclear,” he said.

Despite this, Schefter still thinks the Patriots make the most sense as a destination for Brown, anticipating that a deal will eventually materialize to bring him to New England, reuniting him with Vrabel.

Brown is tied to a contract that runs through 2029, having signed a three-year, $92 million deal with the Eagles last April, but the team faces financial challenges depending on when a potential trade occurs.

Trading the three-time Pro Bowler after June 1 would strategically benefit the Eagles in terms of salary cap.

Throughout the last season, the Super Bowl champion expressed his discontent regarding his role in the Eagles’ offense, both in media interviews and on social media.

Brown concluded the season with 1,003 regular-season receiving yards, marking one of the lowest totals in his seven-year NFL career.

Recently, Brown married his long-time girlfriend, Kelsey Riley, on May 16 at the Montage Laguna Beach, an event that former NFL cornerback Darius Slay attended as a chaperone for the Super Bowl champion.
