The White House has postponed President Donald Trump’s planned signing of executive orders related to artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, which was set to take place today with key figures from the AI industry expected to attend.
According to Axios, the announcement from the White House indicated that the signing of the executive order on AI has been delayed, but no specific reasons were provided, nor was a rescheduled date mentioned. CEOs from various technology companies had been invited to the event.
Previously, a report indicated that Trump aimed to sign the order today amid increasing calls from some in his political circle for more government oversight over AI technologies, including systems like Anthropic’s Mythos.
The White House had been organizing a signing ceremony that would feature CEOs from AI companies. The executive order is intended to establish a voluntary framework to facilitate collaboration between AI developers and the U.S. government concerning the public release of AI models.
One insider noted that the framework might require developers to submit their models to the government 90 days prior to their release and to allow critical infrastructure providers, such as banks, pre-release access. This approach seems to aim for a compromise among Trump supporters who have differing views on how to regulate AI.
This week, Breitbart News revealed that over 60 organizations associated with the MAGA movement sent an open letter to Trump advocating for AI regulation.
Notable signatories included: operation room, which will be hosted by Steve Bannon alongside conservative anti-AI activists Amy Kremer and Brendan Steinhauser. The letter reflects concerns among some within the MAGA coalition regarding the swift advancement of AI technology, particularly given the White House’s relatively laid-back approach towards it.
The Trump administration has been working to promote AI by easing regulations and opposing state-specific AI regulations.
Bannon commented, “This letter takes us to the next level,” suggesting the need for mandatory testing and government approval for AI systems.
The coalition letter was backed by Humans First, a conservative organization advocating for technology to prioritize human benefits over replacement.
Wynton Hall from Breitbart News has authored a bestselling book titled Code Red: Left, Right, China, and the Race to Control AI, which aims to guide the MAGA movement in developing a constructive stance on AI that serves humanity while preventing Silicon Valley influence or foreign domination.
