College Students Face Charges for Violent Beach Takeover

In a recent incident in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, four college students are facing charges tied to a series of disruptive “takeover” events. Police report that these events created chaos at the beach and boardwalk after unauthorized promotional materials circulated online.

The post was linked to rampant underage drinking and drug use, leading to a notable police presence as officers made multiple arrests. It seems that the situation escalated quickly, perhaps more than most anticipated.

The student suspects include Xander Nichol, 19, Angeline Crouville, 21, Eric Barnett, 21, and Keyon Scott, 22. They have all been charged with aiding and abetting a riot as well as second-degree conspiracy.

A spokesperson for Delaware State University stated that the institution is aware of the situation but won’t comment further, directing questions to the police. It’s kind of alarming how rapidly things can spiral out of control during such gatherings.

According to the Rehoboth Beach Police Department, they ramped up their presence early on Tuesday morning. The department noted that this wasn’t an isolated incident, as the same group has apparently organized similar illegal events in the past, which is a little troubling.

Four unauthorized gatherings have occurred at Rehoboth Beach since April. However, Lieutenant Mark Sweet emphasized that there is currently no known risk to the public and that they are committed to monitoring future events for safety.

Among the students, Claudville, Nicol, and Scott have turned themselves in, while Barnett remains unaccounted for at the moment. Interestingly, police are not actively searching for him right now, which raises some questions about the situation at large.

Rehoboth Beach City Manager Taylor Tedder praised the police response and reassured the community, stating that the town remains safe, especially with new seasonal officers on duty. It’s good to know that efforts are being made to keep the area secure.
