NASCAR Mourns the Loss of Kyle Busch
The NASCAR community is grief-stricken after the unexpected passing of Kyle Busch at 41 years old.
Fellow drivers took to social media to pay their respects, reflecting on Busch’s legacy as a two-time Cup Series champion who truly defined his era. Hall of Fame driver Jimmie Johnson shared a heartfelt message, stating, “Kyle Busch was not only one of the fiercest competitors our sport has ever seen, but one of the most talented race car drivers I have ever shared the track with. NASCAR lost one of its greatest talents today, and we all lost a friend.”
Denny Hamlin, who won Busch’s final race at Dover Motor Speedway, also honored him. “This news is completely incomprehensible,” he remarked, emphasizing the need to support Busch’s family during this difficult time, saying, “We love you, KB.”
Dale Earnhardt Jr., a long-time rival, expressed his admiration as well. “Kyle and I have had a tough relationship over the years,” he wrote, noting how they eventually found common ground. “I really wanted us to get along better, and he was the one who made the effort to make that possible.” Earnhardt continued, highlighting Busch’s significance not just as a racing legend, but as a father, husband, and friend, adding, “My heart breaks for the Busch family.”
Kyle Larson, another driver who competed alongside Busch, shared his sorrow: “I am completely heartbroken to hear of Kyle’s passing.” He recalled the many competitive moments they shared, stating, “It’s hard to even explain in words what he meant to me and my career.” Larson described Busch as a “pure racer to the core” and acknowledged that he had set a high standard for everyone in the sport.
Tragically, early Thursday morning, Busch had to step back from the Coca-Cola 600 event due to a “serious illness that required hospitalization.” Just a few hours later, NASCAR confirmed his death.
