Violent Assault Leaves Escondido Veteran in Critical Condition

An elderly man from San Diego County, known for adorning his home with American flags and MAGA merchandise, is currently in critical condition after being violently attacked outside his house.

Escondido police arrested 32-year-old Thomas Caleb Butler on Wednesday at approximately 2:15 p.m., suspecting him of attempted murder. The victim, Kelly Sheron, is a 69-year-old military veteran who owns a well-known local site often referred to as the “House of Trump.”

Sheron has previously reported various threats and instances of vandalism against his property. However, this incident marks a significant escalation, as it has resulted in serious physical harm.

In a video shared on his email and Facebook page, Sheron discussed past vandalism, highlighting how anonymous individuals had damaged both the American flag and the Trump flag that he proudly displayed.

“I saw a big flag 60 meters away from the road. There were flags all over the place in the middle of the road,” he recounted. “We immediately put up a new banner. All new. We love America. I’m a veteran.”

In another clip, he showed remnants of flags scattered on the ground, capturing the extent of damage done to his property.

Authorities reported that Sheron sustained severe injuries during the assault. They cordoned off the intersection of East Mission Avenue and Buchanan Street while a forensic team collected evidence, including bloodstains found on the curb. A Good Samaritan, a public works employee, also sustained injuries while attempting to intervene in the attack.

Butler, who resides nearby, fled the scene but was apprehended by police about 5000 feet away on Begonia Street.

He is currently being held at the Vista Detention Center, where he faces a potential life sentence if found guilty of attempted first-degree murder.

In the past eleven weeks, the “House of Trump” has faced increasing hostility, culminating in this alarming assault that has left Sheron fighting for his life in the ICU.
