Trump Comments on Spencer Pratt’s Mayoral Candidacy
During a press meeting on Wednesday, President Donald Trump shared some thoughts about Spencer Pratt, the Los Angeles mayoral candidate known for his reality TV background, suggesting a mix of curiosity and support for the political newcomer.
When asked about Pratt, Trump remarked, “I want to see him do well. He’s a man of character. I don’t know him. I think he’s probably supporting me…I hear he’s supporting me. I hear he’s a big MAGA guy. He’s fine.”
Pratt, who gained fame from his role in MTV’s “The Hills,” has openly criticized current Mayor Karen Bass (D-Calif.). His political interest was sparked, at least in part, by her handling of the 2025 Palisades fire, which led to the loss of his home.
While registered as a Republican, Pratt has been careful not to align too tightly with the mainstream MAGA movement, opting instead for an independent-style campaign.
“The only support I need is mothers and animal lovers who want to feel safe,” Pratt previously stated in a post on X.
The Los Angeles mayoral primary operates on a nonpartisan basis, meaning that the top two candidates, irrespective of their party, will move on to the general election in November. However, if any candidate garners more than 50% of the primary votes, they can secure an outright victory without a runoff.
The primary is set for June 2, 2026. Recent polling from the Emerson College Poll/California Internal Political Survey shows Mayor Bass leading with 30%, while Pratt has gained ground with 22% support, particularly among male and conservative voters.
This election is drawing nationwide attention, as Los Angeles is the second largest city in the U.S., and the mayor oversees a population that exceeds that of many states.
