Citronella Oil and High-Tech Mosquito Deterrents

Let’s discuss the latest advancements in mosquito repellent technology, particularly citronella oil and sound emitters. It’s time to elevate your mosquito protection to a whole new level.

While traditional nets and sprays are common, a company is on the verge of launching a high-tech mosquito protection system that they believe is fit for, well, the Death Star.

The company promises that “when used as directed, there is no risk to adults, children, infants, or pregnant women.”

Just when you thought things couldn’t get more innovative, Photon Matrix plans to release a new product this summer that aims to revolutionize mosquito control.

Described as the first portable laser mosquito deterrent, the Photon Matrix Lab team asserts that their system employs a light detection method along with a device called a galvanometer to possibly eliminate mosquitoes from your backyard or during camping trips.

The product features a “precision laser striking system” that operates automatically and without chemicals, targeting mosquitoes as they enter its range.

It works by projecting a laser at tiny objects sized between 0.08 and 0.8 inches within an approximate 19-foot radius. However, the device won’t affect larger insects like house flies or wasps, as those are quicker and bigger than mosquitoes, according to the company. Interestingly, it’s designed to safely coexist with bees and butterflies, which it does not recognize due to their different flight patterns.

This Chinese firm, based in Changzhou, mentions that the device will halt operations if a large pet or human steps into the targeted area, citing safety as a primary concern.

Additionally, they assure potential users that the laser is low-powered, meaning it won’t cause burns even in, as they put it, “very unlikely” scenarios.

“When used as directed, there is no risk to adults, children, infants, or pregnant women,” the company stressed.

Looking ahead, the product is scheduled for release around July to August 2026, with a price tag of about $650.

Monthly maintenance is necessary, including cleaning the laser’s optical window to avoid dust buildup.
