Texas Longhorns Softball Advances to Women’s College World Series

The Texas Longhorns softball team, currently ranked second, secured a 5-0 victory over Arizona State University on Sunday, clinching the Austin Super Regional and a spot in the Women’s College World Series. Yet, this win was somewhat overshadowed by an unexpected incident involving a hot mic.

During the game, after Texas pitcher Teagan Kavan was ahead 1-0 against a batter, an unidentified individual was picked up by an ESPN microphone, whispering a curse word. Interestingly, play-by-play announcer Kevin Brown didn’t seem to skip a beat or address the comment, continuing with the broadcast as if nothing had happened.

“You’re going to go to a national championship as an assistant, and then they’re going to kick you out,” Brown remarked while discussing Arizona State coach Megan Bartlett’s history with assistant coaches.

The moment captured on the hot mic isn’t the only surprising occurrence in this tournament buildup. A celebration involving former NBA player Jason Williams and his daughter Mia led to Williams’ ejection during Texas Tech’s match against Florida. Mia, by the way, made a significant contribution to the game by hitting a two-run homer, which helped her team dismantle the Gators.

The University of Texas is set to face off against the Tennessee Volunteers on Thursday in the double-elimination round of the Women’s College World Series.
