Astros Achieve No-Hitter Victory Against Rangers
The Houston Astros extended their winning streak to four games on Monday, delivering an impressive no-hitter shutout against the Texas Rangers. Tatsuya Imai took the mound to start the game, pitching six scoreless innings before relievers Steven Okert and Alimber Santa stepped in to maintain the hitless performance.
The final score was 9-0, marking the first no-hitter in Major League Baseball since September 2024, when Shota Imanaga and two relief pitchers from the Chicago Cubs combined for a 12-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The last complete game no-hitter happened in August 2024, when Blake Snell pitched against the Cincinnati Reds.
Imai pitched diligently for six innings, achieving the 17th regular season no-hitter in Astros history and the fourth overall for the team. Notably, Houston also accomplished a no-hitter during the 2022 World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Imai faced 16 batters in a row successfully, while Okert, coming in afterward, struggled at first by walking three of his initial four batters. However, he regained his control and benefited from a crucial double play in the first inning.
Making his major league debut in the eighth inning, Santa was flawless, retiring all six batters. His final pitch resulted in a strikeout of Brandon Nimmo, concluding the game after a successful challenge by the batter was ruled against him.
This marked the sixth no-hitter in Rangers’ history, with the last occurrence being Corey Kluber’s against the New York Yankees on May 19, 2021.
Notably, Imai, at 28 years old, is enjoying his first major league season after transitioning from Japan. He had signed a three-year contract worth $54 million with the Astros in January. Previously, he was a three-time All-Star in Japan, boasting a solid 10-5 record and a 1.92 ERA last season with the Seibu Lions in the Pacific League.
