Recent Poll Indicates Troubling Times Ahead for America's Future as Younger Voters Favor Socialism

Young Democrats Embrace Socialism, New Poll Reveals

A recent poll indicates that a significant number of young Americans, particularly those identifying as Democrats, are increasingly favorable towards socialism.

The national survey from The New York Times and Siena National, conducted between May 11th and May 15th among 1,507 registered voters, shows that 49% of respondents aged 18 to 29 hold a very favorable or somewhat favorable view of socialism. In contrast, 58% of those aged 30 to 44 expressed support as well.

Overall, the poll found that 49% of all Democratic voters view socialism positively. However, support among older Democrats appears to be waning, with only 36% of individuals over 65 indicating a favorable opinion.

Looking at demographic breakdowns, 53% of white Democrats reported a favorable view of socialism, while 54% of men feel positively about it, compared to 45% of women. Interestingly, only 43% of nonwhite respondents shared similar sentiments.

Moreover, the poll highlights that socialism garners the most support from Democrats with at least a bachelor’s degree, with 59% expressing a favorable view. On the other hand, only 40% of those without a degree feel positively about the ideology.

Last year, a Gallup poll echoed similar findings, revealing that in September 2025, 66% of Democrats held a positive opinion of socialism, while only 42% felt the same about capitalism.

This rising acceptance of socialism among young Democrats coincides with the growing prominence of far-left figures like social media influencer Hasan Piker. During a debate at Yale University in mid-April, Piker remarked on the dissolution of the Soviet Union, describing it as one of the greatest tragedies of the 20th century. He argued that, while many hardships unfolded in Soviet states, America lost its undisputed global standing as a consequence.

Piker, along with Medea Benjamin of Code Pink, was recently subpoenaed by the U.S. Treasury for their involvement in the Nuestra America Convoy, which aimed to deliver humanitarian aid and protest the U.S. blockade of Cuba.
