Martin Short, concerned about his daughter Katherine after not hearing from her for over a day, reached out to a friend for a welfare check. Tragically, Katherine was later found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, along with a suicide note.
According to an autopsy report from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, the comedian initiated the check after more than 24 hours of silence. When friends arrived at her home, they discovered a note taped to her locked bedroom door, which led them to call 911.
Upon the police’s arrival, they forced entry into the bedroom and found Katherine lying on her bed with a Glock 19 9mm pistol in hand.
The coroner’s report indicated that Katherine had previously attempted suicide by overdose in 2017 and had a history of mental health struggles, including depression.
Representatives for Martin have not yet commented on this heartbreaking incident.
Katherine passed away in February, at the age of 42, in what appears to be a suicide.
A representative for Martin Short confirmed the news, expressing, “The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was loved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought to the world.”
In a later interview on “CBS Sunday Morning,” Martin described the situation as a “nightmare” for his family.
He reflected, “Mental health and cancer are both illnesses, and in some cases terminal,” relating it to his late wife Nancy Dolman, who died in 2010. He shared that Katherine grappled with severe mental health issues and borderline personality disorder for a significant period.
