Trump Critiques Biden’s Lawsuit Against DOJ

President Donald Trump has expressed criticism towards former President Joe Biden following Biden’s decision to sue the Department of Justice (DOJ). This lawsuit aims to prevent the release of audio recordings and transcripts linked to the investigation regarding classified documents.

On Tuesday, Trump commented on a news article revealing Biden’s lawsuit, which comes ahead of a set June 15 deadline. The DOJ is expected to release transcripts and recordings from interviews Biden had with ghostwriters for his memoir published in 2017. These materials are slated for submission to the House Judiciary Committee and the Heritage Foundation.

“Crooked politicians!!!” Trump stated on Tuesday.

The Heritage Foundation initiated a request under the Freedom of Information Act for these materials following their use in a prior inquiry led by special counsel Robert Hur in 2023, focusing on Biden’s handling of classified documents, as reported by Reuters.

During a thorough evaluation, which included a five-hour private interview with Biden, investigator Xu found that Biden’s inconsistent memory would complicate any pursuit of charges. In a 2024 report to Congress, Xu described Biden, then 81, as a “sympathetic and well-meaning elderly man” facing significant memory issues.

“My memory is fine,” Biden remarked to reporters in February 2024. He mentioned that the interview with Xu took place shortly after a significant international crisis sparked by the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

Biden’s federal court lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Washington, D.C., claims that the Justice Department’s actions represent an “unreasonable invasion of President Biden’s privacy.”

“All Americans, including current or former vice presidents, have the right to privacy in their private conversations within their homes,” Biden’s lawyers argued regarding his conversations from 2016 and 2017 with memoir author Mark Zwonitzer. They emphasized that the DOJ holds a unique duty to safeguard personal information obtained during a criminal investigation.
