Investigators Renew Search for Missing Woman in the Bahamas
Federal authorities have restarted the search for a Michigan woman who disappeared in the Bahamas. This renewed effort comes after new forensic data raised questions about her husband’s account of that fateful night.
U.S. investigators are seeking permission from Bahamian officials to deploy a dive team to a fresh area in the Abaco Sea. Apparently, newly uncovered GPS data contradicts the husband’s story of events surrounding Lynette Hooker’s disappearance, as reported.
According to sources, data retrieved from Brian Hooker’s electronic devices shows inconsistencies with what he communicated to investigators. The devices also revealed locations that hadn’t been examined yet.
Researchers are also trying to access data from the boat’s equipment, which includes an infrared camera that might contain crucial clues regarding Lynette Hooker’s last sighting.
Search Updates
Bahamian officials relayed that, once they approve the search, efforts would focus on areas of the Abaco Sea, where the depths can reach about 25 feet. This new search strategy relies on GPS data from Brian Hooker’s mobile device, which he reportedly used for marine navigation. It seems that the couple’s dinghy had been in the same vicinity, a U.S. official confirmed.
Reports indicate that the device registered in the water, briefly halted in the Sea of Abaco, before heading back to shore. This information should give investigators a more targeted area to search.
The family of Lynette Hooker has submitted a DNA sample to aid in the investigation, underscoring the seriousness of the situation.
Timeline of Events
Lynette Hooker went missing during a vacation with her husband on April 4. This development has raised more questions regarding Brian Hooker’s narrative. Initially, he told authorities that they were on a boat when Lynette fell from their dinghy and was swept away.
Authorities noted that she had the ignition key when she went overboard, compelling him to paddle back to shore. Following this, there was a week-long search which, unfortunately, yielded no results.
After Lynette’s disappearance, Brian was detained in the Bahamas for five days but did not face any charges. His lawyer previously stated that he returned to the U.S. to care for his ailing mother.
Recently, it was reported that Coast Guard agents seized the couple’s shared yacht, named Soulmate, which was anchored in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Brian expressed his heartbreak over his wife’s disappearance in a Facebook post, describing the incident as a “boating accident” in unpredictable conditions. He stated, “Despite our desperate attempts to get closer to her, the wind and currents have pushed us further apart. We continue to search for her and that is my only focus.”
As of now, Brian Hooker faces no criminal charges from U.S. authorities. Fox News Digital has attempted to contact his attorney for further comments.
